I use positive reinforcement methods. My approach is force-free, fear-free, and pain-free based on Position Statement on Humane Dog Training from the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior. Training plans are tailored to each dog’s learning style, age, breed, and temperament.
The following tools are permitted and may be recommended during training:
Flat collars
Front-clip or back-clip harnesses
Double-ended leads
Long lines
Clickers
Treat pouches
We may suggest equipment based on your dog’s individual training goals and needs, ensuring it’s used correctly and safely. All tools must fit properly and be in good condition for the safety of the dog. We will provide guidance on how to introduce and use tools to build positive associations. Harnesses that allow freedom of movement and reduce pulling are preferred for loose-lead work. Long lines are used only in safe, open environments and under trainer supervision.
We always strive to find solutions based on your dog’s age, breed, living environment, and your dedication and time to get the outcome you are looking for. That being said, training may not “fix” a dog’s problems but we will find a solution so you and your dog can have a healthy and happy living situation.
The best part about being a certified dog trainer is that I’m up to date on the latest effective methods for dog training. I also get to network to find solutions that make a difference.
I use harnesses, leashes, treat pouches, and occasionally I will use a clicker to reinforce positive behavior.
For dog walking, you will only need to provide a leash and a harness. For dog training, packages can be found here. I might suggest some management techniques like baby gates or window film that you can choose to purchase.
